Programme Review and Programme Direction

Two key deliberative sessions during the 15th CCA General Assembly are the Programme Review and Programme Direction sessions.

The Programme Review and Programme Direction sessions will both be conducted in three groups relating to the CCA’s programme areas, namely, (i) General Secretariat (GS), (ii) Mission in Unity and Contextual Theology (MU) and Ecumenical Leadership Formation and Spirituality (EF); and (iii) Building Peace and Moving Beyond Conflicts (BP) and Prophetic Diakonia (PD).

Assembly participants will have the option to join one of three groups for both the Programme Review and Programme Direction sessions. For the sake of coherence, the assigned group will remain the same for both sessions.

General Secretariat

The General Secretariat oversees the coordination of programmatic, administrative, and financial activities of the organization. The GS comprises various departments such as church and ecumenical relations, relations with ecumenical partners, finance, administration, and communications, which provide crucial support and services for the implementation of programs and contribute to the overall functioning of the CCA.

Programmes: Relations with member churches and councils, ecumenical partners; advocacy at the United Nations; ecumenical responses to emerging issues in solidarity; income development and finance; and communications.

Mission in Unity and Contextual Theology (MU) and Ecumenical Leadership Formation and Spirituality (EF)

Under the MU programme area, the CCA accompanies Asian churches to strengthen their mission and witness in multi-religious contexts, revitalise and nurture church unity and the Asian ecumenical movement, and develop contextual theological foundations.

Programmes: Asian Movement for Christian Unity (AMCU); Congress of Asian Theologians (CATS); Asian women doing theology in the context of wider ecumenism; contextualisation of theology in Asia and ecumenical theological education.

The EF programme area focuses on nurturing and developing ecumenical leaders in Asia. The programme aims to enhance spiritual formation and theological understanding, enabling people to actively engage in ecumenical dialogue and collaboration.

Programmes: Ecumenical Enablers’ Training in Asia (EETA); Asian Ecumenical Institute (AEI); Youth and Women Leadership Development; Ecumenical Spirituality and Nurturing of Contextual Liturgical Traditions; Asia Sunday

Building Peace and Moving Beyond Conflicts (BP) and Prophetic Diakonia and Advocacy (PD)

The BP programme area is dedicated to promoting peace, justice, and reconciliation in Asia’s diverse contexts. Through training, advocacy, and dialogue, the programme addresses the root causes of conflicts, empowers communities, and fosters sustainable peacebuilding initiatives.

Programmes: Pastoral Solidarity Visits; Churches in Action for Moving Beyond Conflict and Resolution; Young Ambassadors of Peace in Asia (YAPA); Ecumenical Women’s Action Against Violence (EWAAV); Eco-Justice for Sustainable Peace in the Oikos.

The PD programme area focuses on promoting justice, human rights, and social transformation in Asia. Through advocacy, capacity-building, and raising awareness, the programme addresses systemic injustice, empowers marginalised communities, and advocates for prophetic actions and meaningful change.

Programmes: Human Rights advocacy; Migration, Statelessness, and Trafficking in Persons; Asian Ecumenical Disability Advocacy Network; Asian Advocacy Network on the Dignity and Rights of Children (AANDRoC); Ecumenical Solidarity Accompaniment and Diakonia in Asia (ESADA); Health and Healing; Good Governance; Action Together to Combat HIV and AIDS in Asia (ATCHAA).

    Chiang Mai, Thailand: Rev. Jung Eun ‘Grace’ Moon was installed as the Eleventh General Secretary of the Christian Conference of Asia (CCA) in a solemn service held in conjunction with the Executive Committee meeting of CCA on 5 June 2026.

    Rev. Moon succeeds Dr Mathews George Chunakara, the Tenth General Secretary, who has led CCA since 2015 for two consecutive terms. Upon assuming office, she will become the second woman to serve as General Secretary of CCA.

    The installation service, held at the CCA headquarters, was led by Bishop Reuel Norman O. Marigza, CCA Moderator, and His Eminence Dr Kuriakose Mor Theophilose Metropolitan, Chairperson of the CCA Programme Committee.

    The Very Revd Kwok-keung Chan, CCA Treasurer, delivered the homily.

    Rev. Chan reflected on the ecumenical spirit that sustains unity amid diversity and on “faith seeking understanding.” He encouraged the new General Secretary to ground her leadership in faith, compassion, humility, and servant leadership, expressing confidence that she would guide CCA faithfully as it responds to the changing realities facing the churches and societies of Asia.

    Rev. Kwon We Young, Vice-Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Korea, offered a special prayer during the installation service.

    Following the installation service, Dr Mathews George Chunakara, the outgoing General Secretary, presided over the felicitation session and welcomed the gathering. He offered congratulations and best wishes to Rev. Moon, who will succeed him as General Secretary, and expressed gratitude for her more than ten years of service as a programme coordinator of CCA.

    Felicitating the newly installed General Secretary on behalf of the officers of the Church of Christ in Thailand (CCT), Nuttee Kunlacharnpises, Treasurer of the CCT and a member of the CCA Finance Committee, conveyed best wishes to Rev. Moon. He affirmed CCT’s continued partnership with CCA and its support for the new General Secretary as she assumes leadership for the next five-year term.

    Rev. Park Seung-ryeol, General Secretary of the National Council of Churches in Korea, spoke on behalf of the churches and ecumenical movement in South Korea. He affirmed their commitment to support and accompany Rev. Moon as she leads CCA in a new era.

    Rev. Park also expressed confidence that Rev. Moon would guide CCA with wisdom and courage as it addresses the challenges facing Asia today.

    On behalf of the CCA Executive Committee, Vice-Moderator Dr Anna Alisha Mathew Simon (Malaysia) and Executive Committee members Rev. John Gilmore (Australia) and Lîm Su-Hông (Taiwan) extended felicitations.

    In her address, Rev. Grace Moon expressed deep gratitude for the trust placed in her and affirmed that she regarded her appointment as a calling to serve God and the churches of Asia. She pledged to lead CCA with humility, integrity, accountability, collaboration, and a spirit of service, while strengthening fellowship among member churches.

    Rev. Moon also expressed appreciation to church leaders, ecumenical partners, colleagues and mentors for their encouragement and guidance over the years.

    The installation service was attended by members of the CCA Executive Committee, members of the CCA Thailand Foundation, church and ecumenical leaders from South Korea, and other guests.

    Rev. Moon will officially assume office on 18 June 2026.
