Earthquakes in Taiwan and The Philippines
Landslide triggered by the earthquake in Taiwan
Under His Wings You will find Refuge
The Christian Conference of Asia received with much anxiety and concern, the news about the 6.2-magnitude earthquake that struck Taiwan on Sunday, killing one person and injuring at least 18 others. The tremor, the epicenter of which was near Jenai town in Nantou County afternoon was felt all over the island rattling buildings in Taipei, but most severely in the central and southern regions. Rock slides at a scenic mountainous area near the epicenter injured several people.
Another 5.7-magnitude earthquake jolted North Cotabato province in southern Philippines late Saturday, injuring at least 33 people and damaging more than 140 houses. It struck on Saturday night, damaging, houses and a school, and setting off a landslide. Many residents remained jittery on Sunday because of continuing aftershocks. The Philippine archipelago is located in the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” where earthquakes and volcanic activity are common.
We pray for our brothers and sisters in Taiwan and Philippines at the time of loss, damage and disruption of life, and in their fear and uncertainty caused by the many aftershocks. May the Lord God be your refuge and your fortress.
