The Christian Conference of Asia (CCA) will organise an online Asia Regional Consultation on ‘Freedom of Religion, Rights of Religious Minorities, and Constitutional Guarantees in Asia’ to be held from 5–8 October 2021.
The Consultation will engage representatives from CCA member constituencies in deliberations to review and assess the current situation of religious freedom and minority rights in Asian countries, identify constitutional guarantees and legal frameworks that protect the religious freedoms of minorities in Asian countries, and help foster an inclusive and holistic understanding of the freedom of religion and belief.
The Consultation will feature sessions such as ‘Minority Rights: Understanding Asia’s Majority-Minority Contexts’, ‘The Religionisation of Politics and the Politicisation of Religion in Asia’, ‘Constitutional Guarantees and Religious Freedom in Southeast Asia and South Asia’, ‘Combating Resurgence of Religious Extremism: Role of Religions’, ‘A Shared Vision: Allies for Peace and the Common Good’, and ‘The Way Forward: Advocating for the Freedom of Religion at national, regional, and international levels’.
Specially invited representatives will attend the Consultation. However, additional participants from the CCA’s member churches and councils, ecumenical partner organisations, and other faith-based/civil society organisations will be selected from among the registered applicants.
The deadline for receiving applications is 20 September 2021.
