CCA YOUTH INTERNSHIPS – 2016
The Christian Conference of Asia (CCA) invites applications from young people between the age of 21-30 to serve as interns at CCA headquarters in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Three young ecumenists, who are committed to the ideals of the ecumenical movement, will be selected from among the applicants sponsored and recommended by their member church/ council. The interns are expected to bring positive energy, commitment and fresh vision to a specific work assignment in CCA during an internship starting from 1 January to 20 December 2016. The CCA youth internship program is expected to provide opportunities to search for a renewed vocation for young Christians, as well as to provide opportunities to share their valuable experiences during their internship with CCA. They will be assigned a task within one of the program areas within CCA.
The three interns who will be selected for 2016 internships are expected to work in the following areas:
- International Affairs, Peace Building, Human Rights and Advocacy
- Mission, Unity, Contextual Theology and Ecumenical Formation
- Communications, Ecumenical Relations, Membership
The selected interns will carry out their tasks in co-operation with a program staff, and each intern will be supervised by a senior staff.
General Qualifications / requirements for interns
- A university graduate between 21 to 30 years of age.
- Strong links to their local Christian community and strong involvement in ecumenical movement at the national level.
- Able to work with flexibility and an open mind in a multi-cultural environment.
- Capacity and willingness to handle programmatic and administrative tasks.
- Strong spoken and written communication skills in English; Strong computer skills.
Specific requirements in each category of internship
- International Affairs, Peace Building, Human Rights and Advocacy
This internship focuses on programs covering emerging geopolitical contexts in Asia, peace and reconciliation, human rights and advocacy on various issues such as rights of migrant workers, human trafficking, freedom of religion, rights of religious minorities, advocacy on violence against women, rights and dignity of children.
Specific requirements : Strong interest in geo-political issues, peace-building, human rights, advocacy including U.N and other regional bodies; Bachelors or Masters degree, preferably in International Relations, Human Rights, Peace Studies; Excellent correspondence skills in English; Computer skills including databases and email; Experience in preparing public issues statements; respect for deadlines, ability to prioritize tasks and a good sense of organization.
2. Mission, Unity, Ecumenical Formation
This internship is part of a program area related to mission, unity, contextual theology and ecumenical formation, which includes activities and programs such as Asian Ecumenical Institute, Ecumenical Enablers’ training, Congress of Asian Theologians, preparation for the Asia Mission Conference etc.
Specific Requirements: Strong interests in mission and evangelism, theology, and ecumenical leadership development; Theological degree; familiarity with church unity, ecumenical movement, missiological issues; youth concerns and networks; English language and computer skills.
- Communications
The intern working in this area will assist the staff with visits to churches, conferences and meetings. Duties will also include assisting with the organization of media events, developing and editing written pieces for the media, publication of journals, reports; assisting with the updating of CCA website information. The intern will have to work with the General Secretariat in areas such as church and ecumenical relations, as well as membership matters.
Specific requirements: Excellent communication skills in English; ability to write press releases, maintain social media pages; must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Windows, content writing and editing skills. Computer skills with knowledge in web-editing, updating website contents and managing database and strong interpersonal and communication skills are also preferred.
CCA will be responsible for covering the following expenses
- Accommodation in an independent studio/ one bed room apartment;
- A reasonable living allowance to cover expenses for food and other personal needs;
- Economy class air ticket to Chiang Mai and return home;
- Expenses related to Thailand visa and work permit;
- Medical insurance during the stay in Chiang Mai.
