In Solidarity with All Saint's Church in Peshawar
The Christian Conference of Asia is extremely shocked and dismayed at the news of a pair of suicide bombers blowing themselves up outside the All Saints Church, in Peshawar, Pakistan after the Sunday service, killing at least 78 people. It is tragic to hear that the explosions struck as hundreds of parishioners, many of them women and children, streamed out of the historic 130-year-old Anglican Church. Rev. Shahzad Murad, Secretary, Mission and Ministry, from Peshawar Diocese described it as "a view of hell" saying that many families were killed and many are in hospital in a critical condition.
Such a heinous attack on innocent people, women and children, who were engaged in the peaceful act of worship and prayer, within their own space, is deplorable and appalling.
While we remember the bereaved families and the people who are critically injured, we also pray for the perpetrators, "who do not know what they do." We hope and pray that peace will prevail and that God will give our brothers and sisters in Peshawar strength and courage to sustain them during these trying times.
CCA appeals to all member Churches and Councils to pray for peace and harmony in Peshawar and in all other places where Churches and Christians are being targeted.
