Prayer for Myanmar
Much of the country has been hit by flooding and landslides over the last few weeks. All but one of Myanmar’s 14 provinces were affected by the rains, and aid groups were struggling to reach those affected. The government’s Relief and Resettlement Department estimates that 110,000 people have been severely affected by the floods, particularly in the Sagaing region and Kachin and Shan states. There is particular concern about the situation in Rakhine because more than 100,000 internally displaced people who fled their homes due to civil conflict in recent years live in poorly built and badly situated camps.
Myanmar is struck by annual monsoon rains that are a lifeline for farmers but can also prove deadly, with landslides and flash floods that are a common occurrence. This year’s floods have reportedly destroyed at least 30,000 acres of farmland, and damaged a further 73,000.
Let us pray for the Myanmar and the thousands who are severely affected, and seek to do what we can to help the victims.
