Pastoral letter to Churches in Thailand
The land of smiles is caught up in political turmoil. Protests that commenced in November 2013, intensified further and continue to make headlines till date. The boycott of elections and the farmers’ unrest has aggravated matters. As the deadlock continues, apprehensions about the future loom large in the minds of all in Thailand. In a letter to the General Secretary and Officers of the Church of Christ in Thailand, Rev. Dr. Henriette Hutabarat Lebang, General Secretary of Christian Conference of Asia wrote:
'We note with great concern the ongoing political tension in the life of the people in Thailand. We would like to assure you that the CCA member churches and councils continue to uphold you, the churches in Thailand, the Thai people and the leaders of the nation in this time of struggle and uncertainty.
May the light of God shine upon your ways, and the wisdom of God guide the leaders so that all people can be united and genuine democracy flourish in the country. More specially, we pray for the churches and the Christian communities in Thailand, that the Spirit of God may continue to be with you, strengthening you in witnessing Christ's peace with justice during such a critical time in the life of the nation. "Show us your steadfast love, O Lord; and grant us your salvation." (Psalm 85:7)
Let us pray that the Lord in His mercy will bless this land with peace and harmony.
