Life, Justice and Peace at the CCA Madang

Programme Review and Programme Direction

Two key deliberative sessions during the 15th CCA General Assembly are the Programme Review and Programme Direction sessions.

The Programme Review and Programme Direction sessions will both be conducted in three groups relating to the CCA’s programme areas, namely, (i) General Secretariat (GS), (ii) Mission in Unity and Contextual Theology (MU) and Ecumenical Leadership Formation and Spirituality (EF); and (iii) Building Peace and Moving Beyond Conflicts (BP) and Prophetic Diakonia (PD).

Assembly participants will have the option to join one of three groups for both the Programme Review and Programme Direction sessions. For the sake of coherence, the assigned group will remain the same for both sessions.

General Secretariat

The General Secretariat oversees the coordination of programmatic, administrative, and financial activities of the organization. The GS comprises various departments such as church and ecumenical relations, relations with ecumenical partners, finance, administration, and communications, which provide crucial support and services for the implementation of programs and contribute to the overall functioning of the CCA.

The CCA Madang at Busan Assembly

Greetings from the most happening place in Asia… Busan, South Korea!

The much awaited Tenth Assembly of the World Council of Churches was inaugurated in style with a picturesque and well-choreographed display of a dance drama on the History of Korea, on the afternoon of the 30th of October 2013. The Auditorium of the BEXCO Hall was packed with distinguished guests, leaders from the Churches around the world, delegates, visitors and observers.

Pre-Assemblies on Women and Men Partnership, Indigenous people, Youth and the Disabled were held on the 28th and 29th October 2013.

A spectacular and colorful event with dancing and singing from our indigenous brothers and sisters of Asia announced the opening of the WCC Madang on 30th October 2013.

The CCA Pavilion is quite colorful with banners, pictures, artifacts and posters that portray the diversity and richness of Asia, and the vision, mission of the CCA. Books published over the years ranging from theology, gender, justice, international affairs, youth, economics, environment, HIV&AIDS, to music, liturgy and art, not only reflect the wide range of social, religious and political issues that have been addressed by the CCA, but also indicate the activities, interests and mission of the CCA for the last 55 years.

The co-operation of CCA member churches is acknowledged with deep appreciation and gratitude. While a 2x1 meter poster of the Map of Asia with an invitation to post a prayer for country or countries, attracted a lot of interest and attention among visitors to the Madang, a huge banner on political rights, self-determination and solidarity that forcefully brought to light the struggles of the people of the Philippines, equally intrigued and fascinated many who dropped in at the CCA Madang.

The CCA Madang space has literally reflected the essence of the word Madang which means ‘courtyard’ as it receives a stream of visitors, friends and colleagues, young and old, who feel free to take a break, spend time and share the good times.

The collage brings some preliminary glimpses of the CCA Madang as soon as it was set up. Watch this space for more updates!
