Enthronement of His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, 123rd Prince Patriarch of Antioch and All the East
The Christian Conference of Asia (CCA) congratulates His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Patriarch-elect and Supreme Head of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church, who will be enthroned on 29th May 2014, as the 123rd Prince Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, at St. Ephrem's Monastery, near Damascus, Syria.
Born Sa’id Karim in Qamishli, north-eastern Syria, on May 3, 1965, His Eminence was serving as the Archbishop and Patriarchal Vicar of the diocese of the Eastern United States of America, when his election was announced by the Syrian Orthodox Church in Lebanon, on 31 March 2014. Before his election to the patriarchate, he was known as Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim.
The CCA, with a membership of 101 churches and 17 national councils across 21 countries in Asia, congratulates His Holiness and brings prayerful wishes on this sacred and solemn occasion. This comes with great joy and thanksgiving to the Triune Lord, for in him we see a great ecumenical leader who believes in the unity and common witness of Christians and Churches the world over, and praise God for the tremendous contributions His Holiness has made to the ecumenical world as former member of the WCC Central Committee and Executive Committee, and as a delegate to the WCC assemblies at Canberra, Australia (1991), Harare, Zimbabwe (1998) and Porto Alegre, Brazil (2006).
We pray that God will strengthen, guide and accompany His Holiness in his new ministry, especially during the challenging times for Syria, the Middle East and the entire world.
Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.( Ephesian 6:14,15)
