Earthquake and Tsunami warning in Japan
Disaster strikes again off Japan’s eastern coast
A powerful earthquake struck off the northeast coast of Japan on Friday evening, rattling buildings in Tokyo and raising the risk of a tsunami. The Japan Meteorological agency issued a Tsunami warning for Miyagi Prefecture, the hardest hit area by the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck in March 2011.
The 7.3-magnitude quake hit 492 kilometers (306 miles) east-northeast of Tokyo, the U.S. Geological Survey said. A one-meter Tsunami has hit the Miyagi Prefecture. There is no threat as yet to the nuclear plants. (CNN)
BBC reports that a presenter on state broadcaster NHK told viewers: "Remember last year's quake and tsunami. Call on your neighbors and flee to higher ground now!" Buildings were reported to have swayed violently in Tokyo.
Please join us in prayers for our brothers and sisters in Japan.
