Programme Review and Programme Direction

Two key deliberative sessions during the 15th CCA General Assembly are the Programme Review and Programme Direction sessions.

The Programme Review and Programme Direction sessions will both be conducted in three groups relating to the CCA’s programme areas, namely, (i) General Secretariat (GS), (ii) Mission in Unity and Contextual Theology (MU) and Ecumenical Leadership Formation and Spirituality (EF); and (iii) Building Peace and Moving Beyond Conflicts (BP) and Prophetic Diakonia (PD).

Assembly participants will have the option to join one of three groups for both the Programme Review and Programme Direction sessions. For the sake of coherence, the assigned group will remain the same for both sessions.

christian conference of Asia, Asia christianity

A Common Word to Common Action for Justice Jakarta, Indonesia 26- 28 February 2013

“The Christian Conference of Asia (CCA), the Federation of Asian Bishop’s Conferences (FABC) and the International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS) will be holding a Conference of Christian and Muslim Leaders of Asia, in Jakarta, Indonesia from 26-28 February 2013. The conference will be based on the theme: “A Common Word to Common Action for Justice”. The Conference will be co-hosted by the Communion of Churches in Indonesia (CCI also known as PGI) and the Indonesian Bishops Conference known as Konfrensi Waligereja Indonesia (KWI).

The theme of the Conference has its roots in an Open letter issued by 138 Muslim scholars addressed to Christian World leaders, including Pope Benedict XVI and the General Secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC) titled: “A Common Word between Us and You!” One of the responses to this letter was the statement of the “International Consultation Transforming Communities: Christians and Muslims Building a Common Future” that was jointly organized by the WCC, the World Islamic Call Society (WICS), the Royal Aal Bayt Institute and the Consortium of Common Word, in November 2010. The FABC and CCA felt the need to respond to this call from Asian experiences and perspectives.

On the agenda of the Conference in Indonesia, are presentations, panel discussions, visits to local churches, activities and exposure trips. The presentations and panel discussions will focus on the Role of religion in promoting Justice and Peace in Asia, in the geo-political situation in Asia and in development; One Word One Community in the Pluralistic Context of Asia; and Youth and future Inter-faith relations. Exposure visits of working groups dealing with Migrant issues, Impacts of Globalization, legal struggles in Indonesia, Climate change and Social conflict, Muslim-Christian relations at the local level, Human trafficking and many others that relate to the current ground realities in Asia will be an integral part of the activities planned. The Conference also aims to draft a “Jakarta Message” which would serve as a road map Towards Common Action for Justice and Peace in Asia.

This initiative is unique and brings together eminent scholars and leaders from both communities who will enrich the conference and hopefully make great strides in Christian- Muslim partnership for Justice and Peace.
