CCA affirms its commitment to uphold an ‘Equal and Enabled World’
“Ending prejudice against women is a prerequisite for securing their fundamental rights,” observed the CCA General Secretary Dr Mathews George Chunakara in a statement released on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2020.
The CCA General Secretary’s statement commented on the importance of the theme of IWD 2020, An Equal World is an Enabled World: Each for Equal, and the UN Women’s theme, I am Generation Equality: Realising Women’s Rights, which emphasise the mutual duty of all humans in building a just and fair world.
The statement observed that economic growth has given opportunities to recognise the value of women’s work. However, the reluctance in appreciating the abilities of women to shape development for future generations still prevails.
The CCA General Secretary also stated, “Asian women have always been motivated to work for renewal and restoration within the ambit of ‘Generation Equality’,” and appreciated the leadership that women have provided in movements and campaigns for justice.
The statement urged CCA’s member churches and councils to continue to acknowledge and accept the equality in the leadership of both men and women at all levels and reiterated the CCA’s commitment to the gospel message of equality in its work.
