Basic Ecumenical Course begins in Indonesia
CCA-FMU co-organized with the Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI) a two-week Basic Ecumenical Course on 2-15 May 2011 in Kaliurang, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The theme of the BEC was the CCA General Assembly theme, "Called to Prophesy, Reconcile and Heal."
This was the first time for PGI to hold this ecumenical formation program and CCA-FMU staff hopes that it will become a regular program of the council.
CCA organizes the annual Asian Ecumenical Course with its four components of Asian reality, ecumenical vision, community building and leadership development. But holding the program at the regional level can only gather a small group of people. Holding the Basic Ecumenical Course at the national level can reach out to more people -- and can also be conducted in the national language of the participants.
However, to keep the international flavor of the program, seven participants were invited from other countries: 3 from Malaysia and 4 from Timor Leste.
