Asia regional training on ecumenical diakonia and sustainable development commences in Indonesia
Medan, Indonesia: An Asia regional training programme for second-line leaders on ‘Ecumenical Diakonia and Sustainable Development’ began in Medan, in the North Sumatra region, Indonesia. The training is being held from 29 April to 2 May 2024.
About forty participants, mostly those in the second-line leadership of various Asian churches engaged in ministries related to social, economic, and environmental challenges, are attending the training.
The training programme began with a solemn opening function. Key themes that will be discussed in various sessions in the next three days include ‘Agents of Transformation’, ‘Diakonia as Common Witness for Transformation in a Divided World’, ‘Regional Approaches on Sustainable Development Issues’, ‘Relevance of Global Issues for Local Diakonal Work’, ‘Networking and Collaboration for Collective Impact’, ‘Strengthening Human Resources for Diakonia Mission in Asia Churches’, and ‘Good Governance and Stewardship in Ecumenical Diakonia’.
The workshop will provide training for church leaders to develop effective strategies for managing and implementing programmes and projects under church diakonal missions and enable churches to better contribute to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their respective regions.
