52nd General Assembly of the Korean Christian Church in Japan
The 52nd General Assembly of Korean Christian Church in Japan (KCCJ) was held from October 14-16, 2013 in Nagoya. Rev. Dr. H H. Lebang, represented Christian Conference of Asia at the Assembly.
KCCJ, which celebrated its 100th year in October 2008, traces its history to 1908, when Korean students began worshipping together in the Tokyo area. In 1912, Korean Presbyterian and Methodist Churches combined their efforts to work together for mission among Koreans in Japan. In 1968, KCCJ observed its 60th Anniversary under the motto “Forward, Following Jesus Christ into the World.” From that time onward, it began to incorporate human rights’ and other social issues’ activities in its mission engagements.
Since its establishment, KCCJ has grown to encompass approximately 100 churches and preaching points with 7000 members located in five districts throughout Japan. Today, KCCJ continues its mission work and commits itself to establish peace and justice for all God’s creatures and people in Japan, Asia and the world.
KCCJ is characterized as an ecumenical church formed by many co-operative missions; as a minority church where many Koreans worship and engage in mission from the perspective of minorities; and as a diversified church that welcomes Japanese, South and North Koreans and people of mixed marriages. We wish and pray that KCCJ will continue to serve the Korean community and all those whom they have welcomed into their fold. May God richly bless KCCJ in their work and commitment to peace and justice.
