EDITORS’ PREFACE

We are pleased to present Part I of the Proceedings of the Congress of Asia Theologians (CATS), which met earlier this year in Suwon, Korea. It contains introductory materials for the Congress, as well as the Keynote presentations, two of the three responses to them, the Congress Message, Recommendations, the Constitution and the List of Participants. Dr. Hisako Kinukawa's response will be included in Part II of the Proceedings, along with other significant papers from the Congress, because it is a full paper in its own right. Part II will be published in the first half of 1998, and it will contain the discussions summaries and recommendations, as well as many of the papers brought to the Congress and discussed in Issue Groups and Inter-Disciplinary Groups. We believe that taken together, Part I and Part II of the Proceedings will make a significant contribution to Asian theological reflection.

It is hoped that this report will be widely read and discussed, and that the insights and recommendations will have a positive influence on the way in which theology is done in Asia.
